Ski and Snowboard Trip

UCPA (name of resort)

31 March 07

Dear Skier / Snowboarder,

I have enclosed information to help with your preparations. Please take note of the itinerary and in particular, the pick-up points. If you have not indicated your pick-up or have changed it, let me know as soon as possible.
** Please be at the pick-up 15 mins before the stated time.

1.         Enclosed are the following:

                                                            (a) Itinerary

                                                            (b) List of group with pick-up point

2.         Passport. Please keep your passport in your hand luggage so that it is accessible if required at customs.

3.         If you are a non-EEC citizen, you may require a visa to enter France. Please check if you are in doubt.

4.         Currency. You will require Euros to buy food and drinks en-route. (resort name) has full banking facilities situated in the main village.

5.                  The UCPA address is:

(enter details of centre)

6.         E111. You are advised to obtain an E111 card from your local post office to avoid paying the full medical charges when buying medication. Please note that old certificates are nolonger valid.

7.         Insurance has been taken out for those having requested it. Please check that your own policy gives you adequate cover for Winter sports.

8.         Bedding is supplied but not the towels. Usually the rooms are clean and tidy on arrival but the beds have to be made. At the end of the week, the rooms have to be cleaned and passed ‘fit for purpose’ before your deposit is returned.

9.         Beginners may need to seek advice on suitable clothing - try to borrow before committing yourself to extra expense.

10.       (The resort) has a ‘hands free’ system for the lift pass so you won’t be requiring a photo. The credit-type card stays zipped up in your pocket and sensors read the pass.

11.       The lift pass is worth £120 so take good care of it.

12.       Your £30 or 50€ deposit will be required at registration and will be refunded at the end of the week provided    no damages are claimed against it by the centre. The group has a collective responsibility for good conduct throughout the stay at the centre.

13.       The room allocation will be in fours (unless otherwise arranged) and will be co-ordinated en-route

14.       All equipment is provided after breakfast on the Sunday and then is stored in the equipment room in the basement. Please take care to remember where you have left your skis especially from the day before because it has been known for folk to take the wrong ones. Check the number on the skis against the list of equipment numbers give to you at the point of issue just to be certain. Taking the wrong skis can spoil the day for two people!

Also, it is a good idea to have an old pair of trainers to walk down to the equipment room and change into boots there. It is forbidden to walk through the centre in ski boots in case of accidents.

15.       Lessons start on the Sunday afternoon for beginners and Monday for everyone else. Check the lists just outside the ski school by the bar to see when you have lessons.

16.       If for some reason you plan to miss a lesson, please let somebody in your group know so that the instructor isn’t waiting for you.

17.       Should you discover that your boots don’t fit too well, change them at the earliest opportunity – remember to take your skis along as well to have the bindings adjusted.

18.       The routine for meal times is pretty self evident – it’s self service so you will need to set your table before hand and clear away afterwards.

19.       To buy drinks at the bar, you will need to buy a book of tickets (19€ approx) which are then exchanged for drinks – a beer is two tickets for example. The bar staff appreciate your returning cups and glasses to the bar when you have finished.

20.       Remember to take some basic first aid including sun cream and lip salve.

21.       A good pair of sun glasses is essential and goggles for when it is snowing.

22.       Insurance certificates will be distributed on the coach to those who have subscribed.

23.       Any queries before departure, give me a call:
