Tignes UCPA is in Tignes Val Claret, situated at the foot of the Grande Motte Glacier, at an altitude of 2,100m. Val Claret is the ideal location in Tignes with excellent access to the slopes and the main strip of shops and bars. The UCPA centre consists of two large traditional chalets close to the village centre. There is a drag lift just 50m away which takes you to the main lift station and if the snow cover is good you can ski almost right to the centre. Free wifi is available within the centre.
Tignes UCPA was newly refurbished for winter 16/17.
Rooms
- 4 person multishare rooms
- Bathroom facilities are shared between 2 rooms
Dining
All UCPA meals are buffet style and with multiple servings the norm, you won't go hungry.
Breakfast is normally yogurts, cereals, fruit juice, coffee and bread - don't be surprised to see that the coffee and tea is taken French style - in a soup bowl!
It is possible to return to the UCPA for lunch everyday where you will find 1 or 2 hot options available. As with all meals there will be a salad bar, plenty of bread, cheese, meat and of course desert. If you prefer you can make a packed lunch at breakfast time and eat on the mountain. Either way you will save a fortune avoiding the over priced piste side restaurants.
Dinner is a 4 course buffet - typically a salad bar style starter, a choice of 3 hot main courses, a cheese and cold meat platter and ice cream/desert.
Any special dietary requirements should be made known to reception staff at check in. Generally vegetarians will find a wide enough choice within the buffet.
Entertainment
The UCPA staff lay on an entertainment program each week. It's certainly not Butlins and there is no pressure to take part, it's all quite low key. Typically the program would include stretching, a quiz night and live music. There is a bar in the centre therefore most people will meet before and after dinner for a sociable drink.
Equally in resort there is a good selection of bars and a few nightclubs.
History
UCPA was establish 50 years ago and was originally setup by the French government to encourage young people into adventure sports and make top locations and quality coaching more affordable. It is now a 'not for profit' organisation with all profits being reinvested back into the UCPA to refurbish the centres.
The UCPA ethos is about enjoying the sports, the location and meeting people. The centres have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
