Tignes Ski Area

The Tignes ski area is linked up to the neighbouring resort of Val d’Isere to create one of the most famous ski areas in the world, the Espace Killy. The area is vast and includes a total 96 lifts giving access to over 300km of piste and a huge area of list served off piste. One notable advantage of the Espace Killy area is it’s high altitude (second highest in Europe) making it an extremely snow sure resort. Tignes is a great choice for early or late season skiing and usually does well even in lean snow years, they even provide summer skiing on the Grand Motte glacier and the resort prides itself on offering at least 1000m of skiing for 10 months of the year.

Tignes Pistes

The terrain is very varied over the Espace Killy. With over 300km of piste there is plenty to keep you occupied throughout your stay and a good spread across all the grades. For beginners there are special ‘tranquil’ zones in which strict speed limits are enforced making for a much more enjoyable experience. At the other end of the scale there are a number of ‘Naturide’ runs in Tignes which are un pisted but within the patrolled area, a great concept taking away some of the additional risk of off piste skiing for the more advanced skiers and boarders looking to venture into the back country.

Tignes Off Piste

As well as a superb piste network Tignes can boast one of the largest lift served off piste areas in the world. Areas of note include the Chardonet Bowl, the classic Vallon de la Sache or the P Couloirs (P1-3) all of which are steep and serious undertakings. Even if you are an experienced off piste skier it is highly advisable to hire a guide or even better come on one of our great off piste courses.

Tignes Snowparks

There are a few different snow parks dotted around the Esapce Killy area all of which change each year. There is an excellent super pipe located in Lanches Val Claret but for the best park action head over to the snow park in Val d’Isere.

  • Lunch and dinner were epic. Buffet style with delicious and varied options each day and night. Not cheap foods either - Full roast chickens, ribs, roast beef, etc. Unreal!

  • The lift pass is amazing. It didn’t cover just Tignes, but all of Espace Killy. The pass alone was 228 euro if bought on its own.

  • No matter how hard you try, when you book everything separately (especially with the Euro and price of food at the moment), you will never beat UCPA.

Tignes |

I spent the New year in Tignes at the UCPA and had an amazing time. It was my first time at UCPA but do enamoured that I immediately booked a second trip for February.

Tignes |

I recently stayed at the Tignes (Val Claret) UCPA centre and had the best weeks skiing ever. I booked through the Action Outdoors website which was pretty straight forward. This was my first time in a UCPA centre and I was travelling with my girlfriend and four friends – a mix of skiers and boarders ranging in experience from complete beginner to ex-seasonaires. On arrival after a long coach journey we were greeted by a cheerful and  welcoming team at the UCPA centre who gave us the lowdown on the arrival procedures. The centre was extremely well organised and helpful staff made the task of checking in/booking onto lessons/collecting lift pass and equipment so much easier than I have experienced in any other resort.

Tignes | Snowboard Half Time

This was my fifth UCPA trip via Action Outdoors.  And each time I booked I hardly had any issues.  If I had any questions, Action Outdoors emailed back very swiftly with helpful answers.  The only thing that I could make a point on this trip was that we weren't told of any transfer details from the airport to the resort until I had to call the bus operators (Ben's buses in this case) directly.  All the other times, we were texted the transfer details and didn't have much of a problem.  The info on Action Outdoors page was very thorough and informative.  The only point I could make on the website is that when we try and log in to our group page by logging in as opposed to clicking the link from the email, it was quite difficult to locate it, in fact I don't think I ever located the group page by logging in - I think I had to search for my Action Outdoors email each time to click the link.

Where do I start. Excellent from start to finish. The value for money is uncanny. I stayed in Tignes at the UCPA resort. From the moment I stepped of the plane it was seamless. The UCPA chalet was really good value for money and just as I expected. Unfortunately I was injured on my second day. The tuition I had up until that point was 1st class. The staff at the resort were so helpful and knowledgeable. I called a outdoor activities representative whilst abroad and they were very sympathetic and helpful and their response and expertise made my claim seamless. All in all I was injured but still has a memorable holiday. Thank you thank you action outdoors. I will be booking with you again and cannot sing you praises enough to my friends.

Tignes | Beginners Ski Full Time

First time on a pair of skis for me and I had a brilliant time! The centre was perfect - ski to the door, great facilities and friendly staff. As for the skiing, I couldn't believe how quickly we all progressed! We moved from snow plow on the baby slope on day one to parallel turns on a blue run on day 4 and finished the week with what seemed like a giant leap into an airbag in the snowpark! I just need to get booking my next trip with action outdoors for Christmas. I'm very pleased that I opted for the full time lessons, I was able to take a couple of sessions out to ski with friends - a perfect combo.

Tignes | Snowboard Half Time

I chose to stay at the Tignes resort after reading some reviews online and would do it again. The UCPA centre is walking distance from the lifts and you can also get a bus from outside the centre and get to various other lifts in 10min (buses are free and run every 10min, which is pretty handy!).

Tignes | Ski Half Time

Overall, I have to say that I very much enjoyed my week's skiing at the UCPA in Tignes. The main positives of the trip were: the friendly people at the resort, the delicious all-you-can-eat food, the great help at the ski shop and the fact that the ski-lifts were very near the UCPA centre.  The accommodation was comfortable enough, albeit it the beds were very narrow, like army cots. Also, the fact that we had to share one toilet and shower among eight people was inconvenient at times. Some of my friends were very happy with the standard of instruction during ski lessons. I thought my instructor was only average. She could have been a little more eager to help. She was a little laissez faire and didn't provide much feedback on how we were getting on with technique and how we could improve.  However, these complaints are minor, when I consider the experience overall, which was very good. I'd definitely be interested in going on another UCPA holiday!

Tignes, Chamonix, Les Deux Alpes |

All 3 resorts provide continuity and meet expectations. It's so refreshing to have an organisation in which really is in it for the SNOW! Affordable, hassle free and a fantastic all round experience catered via, amazing food, comfortable accommodation, excellent equipment. Finally the instructors are patient and great teachers. I don't want to write a long review because I could go on forever!

Tignes |

I did enjoy my holiday in Tignes. It's a challenging resort with many runs a bit tougher than their colour rating but there are certainly plenty of them to choose from and as well as Tignes, you also have all the Val d'Isere runs on offer so there was plenty to do in a week.

Tignes | Ski Full Time Beginners

It was my first time spending the ski season in the French Alps so I was really looking forward to the whole package that had been provided by Action Outdoors. Upon arrival I noticed that the accommodation was quite cosy. Even though it wasn't fancy and only had the bare necessities it was more than enough to make my week's stay quite enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the lunches and dinners as the food was varied every night and there was always an amazing spread!
