Dakhla

Situated on the Moroccan coast, Dakhla has a wide variety to offer as a destination. Rich in culture and history, unique in its location and landscape, along with its reliable wind, this is an excellent place to go for experiencing it all. 

For those of you looking to avoid the crowds in Europe, this is the place to go without having to fly too far! Dakhla is a city located on a 50km long narrow peninsula of the Atlantic Coast, where on the one side you can find a flat-water lagoon and on the other side some world-class waves. It's swiftly becoming one of the top detinations for watersports in the world. 

Activities

Famous for it's kitesurfing and wind based sports, the centre in Dakhla specialises in kitesurfing. Dakhla is one of the most wind sure destinations with more than 330 windy days a year on average making it an all year round kitesurfing spot. The lagoon is surrounded by desert and has a unique playground where you can kite surf amongst the flamingos and dolphins. It's flat lagoon one one side makes learning very enjoyable and it's wavy side can give those more experience a bit more of a challenge! 

There are several surf spots around Dakhla; La Sarga, Point d'Or, Arish and Foumbouir. Foumbouir is the most famous as it often hosts the surfing (+ kitesurfing) world championships regularly. The ideal time to surf in Dakla is from October to April. 

Participants are split into groups based on ability and all are welcome, from complete beginners to experts. You can use your free time throughout the week to explore the town or practise some other sports such as SUP or yoga.

Local Town

UCPA ​Dakhla is located just a few hundred metres away from the small local airport. 

The town is built on the narrow Rio de Oro peninsula, which in turn provides it with great areas for kite surfing, from long beaches to wide lagoons.

Morocco has one of the most diverse cusines, influenced by the Spanish, Arabian and French food style. Dakhla itself it renowned for it's Oyster farming by hand. With a huge range of delicious fish to chose from, you certainly won't be dissapointed food wise in this area!

Dakhla National Park is home ​for a diversity of marine life, birds, reptikes and mammals that are rare or threatened species. All year round, you can see dolphins or even orcas swimming in Dakhla lagoon. But the most frequently, you can spot a flock of flamingos gathered in the lagoon which are the most representative birds of Dakhla region.

UCPA Centre

Instead of having a purpose built UCPA centre, in ​Dakhla UCPA use the Hotel Doumss. The hotel is a couple of minutes walk away from the beach and bars in the area. A shuttle will take you every day to the lagoon in ​the activites center, where you will spend the day and a good part of the evening.

You can enjoy both the Lagoon and the city, public traditional Hammams, markets and restaurants in the city. Dakhla remains ​very tourist free which allows you to discover an authentic city with its markets, its stalls, its atmosphere at dusk.
