Military and UOTC

Adventurous training is straightforward with UCPA. Accommodation, full board, lift passes and equipment hire are included in the price and provided for on-site in the UCPA centres. We can also help arrange instruction/guiding, as well as transport. We (UCPA UK/Action Outdoors) take over 2000 Military and UOTC personnel each season for ski expeditions and adventurous training. We understand the process you need to go through to organise the expedition and are here to help along the way.

'Why' is easy to answer:

  • It's not self-catered, but it is accepted as a venue for adventurous training
  • No additional costs in resort (apart from for the occasional beer)
  • Everything on site; equipment hire, restaurant, bar, instructors etc.
  • No extra time required for food shopping, prepping, cooking and cleaning
  • No extra vehicles required for food shopping
  • Buffet style dinners, all you can eat
  • Proper beds (no sofa beds and camp beds)
  • Easy meeting and briefing areas, unlike apartments
  • Groups of 30+ receive a free UCPA instructor
  • On site assistance
  • We can separate costs on invoices to match requirements
  • We arrange payment plans to fit funding timeframes
  • We give you assistance through the whole process

UCPA centres are purpose built to focus on activities, providing a practical and functional layout which also allows for a sociable environment. The large bar/social areas are great for meeting up at the end of the day and relaxing. Most centres also have meeting rooms which can be used for further instruction and feedback, or briefing and debriefing.

All of the centres are either ski in/ski out, a short walk from the pistes, or an easy bus ride. With everything provided on site, there is no need for vehicle usage during the week.

Groups are accommodated together in dorm style rooms. Most resorts have 4 or 6 bed rooms with shared bathroom facilities.

Males and females can be kept separate if required, though if there are spare beds in a room, then individuals may be accommodated with other UCPA customers of the same gender staying in the centre.

There are limited twin rooms in some centres, but these are not usually available for military or UOTC groups.

Argentiére
World renowned off piste located a few minutes walk from the centre. The Chamonix Valley is a famous for a reason, with it's high peaks and beautiful glaciers.

Chamonix
In the centre of a quintessential alpine town, UCPA Chamonix provides access to the esteemed valley. Just a few hundred metres from the Aiguiile du Midi lift.

Flaine
Access the expansive Grand Massif piste network straight from the door of the centre, a slightly more comfortable option since it used to be a hotel.

Les Arcs
A huge centre which is typically good for very large groups. A popular resort with military groups, it has ski in/ski out and great food from the buffet.

Les Contamines
Avoid the queues and crowds at this off-the-radar resort. Lots of great terrain for all levels, and always at an excellent price. A relatively short distance from Geneva Airport.

La Plagne
Snow sure from early to late season and a great piste network. The ski in/ski out centre used to be a hotel and has been refurbished recently. Usually available for UOTC groups only.

Les Deux Alpes
With a large piste network and some great mixed terrain, there is a lot to do during the week. A comfortable centre with a lovely alpine town.

Serre Chevalier
A sunny resort with a great range of pistes for all abilities, across an excellent network. Accessible from either Turin or Grenoble airport.

Tignes
A centre recently refurbished to a high standard, very popular with military and UOTC thanks to its access to the world renowned Espace Killy ski area.

Val d'Isere
A basic centre compared to others, but situated in the beautiful alpine village of Val d'Isere with full access to the world renowned Espace Killy ski area.

Val Thorens
A fantastic, modern centre, situated right on the slopes of Val Thorens. Europe's highest resort, and part of the enormous Three Valleys ski area. Usually available for UOTC groups only.

Cheaper than self catered. All food is included in our prices. By eating together in the centre, you can be assured that everyone is having 3 meals a day and you don't need to worry about admin runs to the local supermarket for food. Breakfast tends to be cereals, breads and jams. Lunches can be either hot or packed lunch (depending on resort and/or activity requirements). For the evening meal, there are a variety of hot dishes to choose from as well pasta or rice dishes, salads and then desserts and cheese.

Your CILOR allowance can be deducted from the price of the week and a separate invoice provided for food supplies, as required.

We don't tie you in to travel. You are completely free to arrange your own. Equally, we can arrange transport for your military/UOTC group, if required. We can book coach travel from the UK directly to resort with our partner company Snow Express, either with individual seats on the scheduled coach service that leaves from London, or with a private hire coach that picks you up from your barracks/university. Alternatively, you can take advantage of group rates with low cost airlines and book direct for your group and we can then organise your transfers from the airport to resort.

Or, you may prefer to arrange your own transport and take your own vehicles. Some centres have their own car parks (sometimes with a small charge), or there is usually a public car park a short distance from the centre.

On piste/SF1 equipment hire included in the per-person price and includes skis, boots and poles (helmets can be hired as an additional extra). The equipment provided is according to the individual’s ability level.

SF2 touring equipment is available at some centres (Argentiere, Serre Chevalier and Les Contamines), which you can hire for an additional supplement.

Equipment hire is all on-site, with easily accessible equipment rooms to store your skis and boots.

You will be taking your own instructors, but if you have a group of 30 or more, you will have a free UCPA instructor who can show you around, give guidance regarding weather, avalanche danger, or the most suitable slopes for a specific lesson. Or, with advanced authorisation, they can instruct an SF1 group within your ratios.

If you are struggling to find instructors we can arrange extra UCPA instructors for you (where available), who can also be authorised to instruct within your ratios – just contact us for quotes and availability.

Contact us to let us know your preferred dates and resorts and we'll send you a quote. If you are happy with the quote we can usually put the places on hold for around 2 -4 weeks before we require the 10% deposit payment and signed contract.

Once the contract has been confirmed, we'll contact you to pay the final invoice at 90 days before travel (though we are very flexible with timescales) and then we'll request a final nominal roll a few weeks before travel (no admin charge if names change after this time).

Let us know your preferred dates/group numbers here and we'll send you a price list.
